Behaviour support plans in Perth and across WA.

A behaviour support plan sets out practical, respectful strategies to help a person live well and reduce the need for behaviours of concern. Steppr writes plans with the participant, their family and their support team.

Who a behaviour support plan is for.

A behaviour support plan is for NDIS participants whose behaviour puts their safety, relationships or quality of life at risk, or who are supported by someone using restrictive practices. If you are not sure whether a plan is the right next step, send a referral and our team will talk it through with you.

What a plan includes.

  • What we have learned about the person, their communication and what matters to them.
  • Why the behaviour is happening, based on a functional behaviour assessment.
  • Proactive strategies that change the environment and build skills.
  • Clear guidance for responding in the moment.
  • How progress will be reviewed.

Interim and comprehensive plans.

Interim behaviour support plans

An interim plan gives support workers and families practical strategies quickly, while a full assessment is still underway. It is used when a person needs guidance soon.

Comprehensive behaviour support plans

A comprehensive plan follows a full functional behaviour assessment. It goes into more depth on the reasons behind behaviours and the long term strategies that will help.

Timeframes, requirements and the use of each plan type under NDIS rules should be confirmed with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission or your practitioner.

How Steppr helps.

Your Steppr practitioner assesses behaviour in real life settings, writes a plan in plain language, and guides the people around the participant to put it into practice. We review and adjust the plan as things change.

How to get started.

Send a referral through our online form. Our team reviews it, matches a practitioner and gets in touch. You can read more on our How PBS Works page, learn about functional behaviour assessments , or see all our services .

Restrictive practices.

A behaviour support plan does not authorise restrictive practices. Read more on our restrictive practices page.
