Respecting the enduring connection to Country

Acknowledging the Traditional Owners of Western Australia.

We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we gather, the Whadjuk people of Noongar Boodjar. We recognise their continued connection to the land and waters of this beautiful place, and acknowledge that they never ceded sovereignty. We respect all Whadjuk Elders and Ancestors, and any First Nations people here today.

We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the lands on which we live and work across Western Australia.

We recognise the continuing connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to land, waters, and community. We pay our respects to Elders past and present, and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.

Western Australia is home to many distinct Aboriginal nations and cultural groups. We respectfully acknowledge the Traditional Custodians across the State, including:

  • The Whadjuk Noongar People, Traditional Owners of the Perth region
  • The broader Noongar People of the South West of Western Australia
  • The Yamatji Peoples of the Mid West, Gascoyne, and parts of the Pilbara
  • The diverse Kimberley Peoples, representing many language groups across the north
  • The Pilbara Traditional Owners, including groups across the Yamatji Marlpa region
  • The Martu People and other Western Desert cultural groups across central and eastern Western Australia

We acknowledge that Aboriginal people are not one single group, but a diverse and rich collection of cultures, languages, and communities, each with their own unique connection to Country.

We recognise the strength, resilience, and ongoing cultural knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and we are committed to listening, learning, and walking respectfully together.

Acknowledgement of Country

Listening and learning together.

Steppr is committed to building respectful relationships with Indigenous Australian and Torres Strait Islander Peoples by actively listening to their perspectives and cultural knowledge. We prioritise collaboration to ensure our support aligns with community values and needs.

Our approach focuses on ongoing learning and cultural respect, recognising the strength and resilience of Aboriginal communities, and delivering culturally appropriate services based on our learning about Boodjar Moort Katitjin. We work alongside local AECG (Aboriginal Education Consultative Group), Aboriginal Land Council, Traditional Owner group and/or local council to provide behaviour support that honours their connection to Country and culture.

Our commitment to respect and collaboration.
